Sculpture hanging in the atrium

Here is a video of my sculpture in movement how it should be viewed. The atrium is a busy place to be and the my sculpture is made of paper and is only held up by cotton therefore it will be constantly moving. The strings hanging the sculpture would ideally be user friendly so that passers by can interact with the piece like as seen in my video. I am pleased with it :)

((Excuse the shoddy quality, blogger didnt like quality sizes))

The way the sculpture moves is very like how plants and flowers move during the day, following the sun. This completes the nature and repetition theme and completes the project.

Paper Sculpture!

Me interacting with the piece - viewer enjoyment

This was my first attempt at releasing the paper structure from tension but unfortunately it didn't drop as I wanted. Here you can see some interesting sides of the structure.

My Final Poster

Here is my finished poster to celebrate the 100th year of GF Smith paper. It has a striking grid structure based on the union jack. I have created a 3D poster because of the malleability of paper Richard Sweeney has introduced me to. Pleating has been using on the massive vertical number 1, a trick which Richard Sweeney taught me, which looks really effective with the shadows and highlights, this is also the main centre column of the union jack.
The company name has been stencilled onto a curved strip travelling horizontally across the page. This looks really interesting with the purply shadows coming through from the layer below. The number 100  isn't very bold as I tried making it really prominent and it ruined the grid structure and seemed to take over the whole image, subtlety makes the poster alot smoother and less thrown together.
The blue which represents scotland in the union jack has been created using coned circles of blue paper. I experimented using the same shape and size cones but GF Smith paper wants to show its diversity and the difference of the cone shape, size and rotation shows this whilst also making some awesome shadows on the paper. I played around with the lighting direction and found that softened light from the left worked the best! I think the poster is pretty sweet :)

Creating the GF Smith Poster

Using sketches from my sketchbook as a guide to how to have the structural elements I created this 3D poster celebrating GF Smith's 100 anniversary. Here are my steps through creating this image.

This is my most recent copy of the poster but work still has to be done. Tomorrow I will be photographing it properly with an SLR camera and looking at shadows. This then has to be photshopped where YEARSof has to be written at the top right space below the red twirly paper in Helvetica Neue Bold Size 20&15, as well as Design Museum// 01-31 July 2011 also in Helvetica bottom right on a slant with the twizzly paper line. The background needs cleaning and when this is all done considered for printing for my poster.

manufacture of the sculpture

paper poster!

Task2 is to complete a poster to celebrate the centennial anniversary of GF Smith Paper. I have been looking at poster design, more specifically grids, subdivisions, golden ratios, Font variables and such like. Here is some sketchbook work on the poster using my sculpture as the image.

^First sketch above for poster below
Unfortunately this image hasn't got the resolution I need for my poster as it needs to be printed A2. I have however considered the golden rule which I never have when designing before. I have heard from tutors recently that we are not aloud to use our sculpture for the poster to celebrate the event therefore I am going to create a 3D poster onto a piece of paper which I then will photograph.
